Le bolet \u00e0 pied creux est un champignon nordique qui fructifie en abondance jusqu\u2019au Nunavut o\u00f9 il prosp\u00e8re en association avec des m\u00e9l\u00e8zes rabougris jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la limite des arbres *8*<\/span> *9*<\/span>. Plus au sud, il s\u2019associe \u00e9galement avec d\u2019autres essences foresti\u00e8res, dont le pin gris *1*<\/span> *2*<\/span>. Sa fructification s\u2019\u00e9tale de la mi-septembre jusqu\u2019aux neiges.<\/p>\n

Le bolet \u00e0 pied creux est facile d\u2019identification avec un pied r\u00e9ellement creux *5*<\/span>, un chapeau brun rouge\u00e2tre fibrilleux-m\u00e9chuleux *2*<\/span> *3*<\/span>, les restes du voile universel qui forment une gu\u00eatre sur son pied *4*<\/span>, lui donnant la m\u00eame couleur que le chapeau ou une teinte plus p\u00e2le.<\/p>\n

Comme chez tous les champignons dont le pied est gu\u00eatr\u00e9, le haut du pied est tr\u00e8s p\u00e2le de la zone annuliforme jusqu\u2019aux tubes *4*<\/span>. Les tubes sont l\u00e9g\u00e8rement d\u00e9currents, de couleur jaune p\u00e2le et de forme irr\u00e9guli\u00e8re *6*<\/span>.
\nLes primordiums se forment \u00e0 la surface du sol, sous la mousse et les lichens *7*<\/span>, pour les traverser par la suite et venir \u00e9taler leurs chapeaux en surface. Les deux derni\u00e8res photos ont \u00e9t\u00e9 prises au Nunavut o\u00f9 ce bolet repr\u00e9sente une esp\u00e8ce dominante et d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n
